Background

Where electrical power meets control

Vessels, drilling rigs, production platforms and industrial sites, in more than 50 countries. Since 2020 I have done that freelance, under jvissers.com.

New-build battery-electric ferries, top drives on land rigs that have to turn again, revamps on platforms that are still producing. The installations differ, the work is essentially the same. Most faults sit where electrical power meets control, and that boundary is my work.

I work directly for owners and operators, or through EPCs, system integrators and yard project teams. The base is a 120 m² workshop in the Netherlands. The work is on your site, worldwide and on short notice.

How I work

One engineer, from the first call to the final test

  • One name on the job

From the first call to the handover you deal with me, and I am the one who turns up on site. No dispatcher in between.

  • A specialist

Drives, PLCs, PMS and EMS, and the boundaries between them. That is where I spend most of my time, and where the real faults hide.

  • Confidential by default

Client and vessel names do not appear on this site. Proprietary control systems and sensitive data I treat like safety: not negotiable. NDA by default.

On site the job comes down to the same three steps, whether it is a ferry, a land rig or a plant.

  1. Understand the system

Read the code as it is, measure what the drive actually does, follow the signal across the boundary between control, drive and power.

  2. Get it stable

Find the cause, fix it and get the system running stably again.

  3. Back to production

Test, document, hand over. The crew knows what was changed and why, and the next engineer can follow it.
